The project as related to the term Americans :

The term can be a bit vague, and some people, like me, may have a different meaning attached to it. When using the project, the terms different people use are "translated" so when someone is looking through a social model for example, they can see it in their terms or users, etc.

Another term would be "American Indian" or usually just "Indian". The systems help to keep seperate when Indian means Native American or Indian from India, and "translates" all those terms into American for me. And uses my proper terms for what others are calling "American".

To me American just refers to what is commonly "Native American". I try to use american in lower case or preferably usa citizen when I am refering to in general the people of the society in the usa regardless of race or heritage. And although I usually mean legal usa citizens, when I use the lower case american or term usa citizen, sometimes the term really should be usa resident (to include immigrants who have not yet achieved citizenship.
